Michael J. Hmelyar Jr., age 75 of Fairbank, PA passed away on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at his residence. He was born January 16, 1944 in Newboro, PA, a son of Michael J. and Anna Dobaj Hmelyar.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Patricia (Yocabet) Hmelyar.
He was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi R. C. Church in Footedale and a former member of St. Procopius R. C. Church in New Salem. He was a life member of both the Newboro Indian Organization and the Fairbank Rod and Gun Club in addition to being an avid hunter who loved the outdoors. He was drafted into the United States Army and served two years in Fairbanks, Alaska.
Michael is survived by a son, Michael D. Hmelyar and fiancée Erica Jordan of Fairbank; daughter, Linda Edenfield and husband Todd of Newboro; grandsons: Adam Thomas, Nicholas Thomas and Steven Edenfield; a great granddaughter, Admire Thomas; a brother, Joseph Hmelyar and wife Patty; sisters: Margie Grzesiak, Dolores Hmelyar, Terri Haines and Mary Ann Cossick and husband Michael.
Michael’s family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, February 15, 2019 at the Kish-Fabry Funeral Home, Inc., 20 N. Mill Street, New Salem, PA. and Saturday until 10:00 a.m. when a Blessing Service will take place with Father William G. Berkey, as Celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Leckrone, PA. where Full Military Honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post # 423 of Masontown.
