Loretta Platos Obituary

Loretta Ruth Sandala Platos We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our dear friend and family member, Loretta R. Platos. She passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Bella Healthcare Center. Loretta was born on July 19, 1932 in Acme, PA, the daughter of Paulina and Michael Sandala. Her family had moved to Merrittstown when she was five years old and Loretta made it her home for most of her life. She was a 1950 graduate of Redstone High School. In her younger years, she worked in Brownsville at the Nut Shop, Johnston the Florist, finally opening Evergreen Floral, with her husband John. According to Loretta, Brownsville was the place to be back in the day. She would often speak of her days at the flower shop, the long hours she worked and all the wonderful friends that would come by and help. Recently, she was reunited with one of those friends, Joann Gaskill at the nursing facility. She spoke fondly of her family and friends and was always willing to help anyone in need. A lifelong member of Holy Rosary Church, in Republic: she would help in the office, various bakes sales, the street fair, as well as decorating the Church for the holidays. She was also a Lady of Holy Rosary and took on the ministry of sending cards to the shut-ins, until the closing of the Church. She also volunteered her time at the St. Vincent DePaul Store, with her friend Charlotte and still found time to help friends get to where they needed to be. In recent years, she became a member of St. Mary Nativity Church, in Uniontown. Loretta enjoyed life. She enjoyed being a Silver Sneaker at the YMCA and all the friends she made. She also enjoyed her lunches at Eat n Park, her hair appointments, visits to Lady Luck, her Sunday afternoons with Rose and Jean, the bus trips, and all the gatherings that she shared with family and friends over the years. Everyone loved Loretta. She was a kind-hearted soul and will be missed. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, John C. Platos, her sister Maryanna and her husband Carlisle, her brother James and his wife Billie, and her nephew James, as well as many other family members and dear friends. She is survived by her brother, Richard and his wife Shirley and many loving nieces and nephews. She is also survived by Paul and Laura Buckel, with whom she made her home, and their family: Paul III and his wife Janelle and their son Charlie, Jacob and his wife Katie and their children Arlo and Birdie, Julianne and her husband Michael and their daughter Siena, Joshua, Emily and Jonathan.
