Josephine Najdek Smith, age 97 of New Salem, PA passed away on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 with her loving family by her side. She was born in Celinovec, Bosnia (Yugoslavia) on December 6, 1920 a daughter of Adam and Katerina Jaros Najdek.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Adam Smith; brother, Karl Najdek; sister, Angelina Frankowski.
Josephine was a longtime member of St. Francis of Asissi (Footedale Worship Center) where she was a member of the Confraternity of Christian Mothers and will be remembered for her countless hours and endless efforts in gardening and providing flowers for the beautification of the church. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend. She was loved by many and will be sadly missed by all.
Josephine is survived by her nine children: Angela Pikulski, Frank Smith and his wife June, Anna Mays, Joseph Smith and his wife Chantal, John Smith and his wife, Carol, Bruno Smith, Catherine Petipas and her husband William, Walter Smith, Stanley Smith and his wife Cindi; eleven grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Josephine’s family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, August 3, 2018 in the Kish-Fabry Funeral Home, 20 North Mill Street, New Salem, PA where Prayers of Transfer will be said on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in the St Francis of Assisi R.C. Church (Footedale worship site) with the Reverend Father William G. Berkey as Celebrant. Interment will follow in St Thomas Cemetery, Footedale, PA.
The Rosary will be prayed by members of St. Francis of Assisi in the Funeral Home at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
