Joanne Tassone, 87, of Republic, PA received her angel wings on Tuesday, July 9th, 2024, after facing health issues with grace for many years. She died peacefully with her family by her side at Mount Macrina Manor after battling bladder cancer.
She was born on May 5th, 1937 to the late Violet Workman of Brownsville, PA. She was preceded in death by her husband Angelo, whom she married in 1957 and cared for during his battle with Multiple Sclerosis; her loving son, Gregory; sister, Kim Roberts; and special cousin George “Sonny” Markish and wife Colleen. She is survived by loving daughters: Tina Tassone (Bob Phillips), Lisa (Dale) Sloan, Gina Tassone, and Angela (Wayne) Shumar, all of Republic, PA; granddaughters: Amanda Sloan of Pittsburgh, PA, Emily Sloan of Morgantown, WV, and Melanie Shumar of Richeyville, PA whom she loved “to the moon and back”; special godson, Eddie Adams; sisters: Sandy (Rosendo) Chavarria of Valparaiso, IN and Charlotte (Scott Flemming) Jennings of Brownsville, PA; as well as many special nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends including the Turosik/Greenlief family of California, PA.
She was known by those she loved as “Booma”, Mommy Joni, JoJo, and Mama J.
Joanne’s greatest joy was caring for her family and loved ones. She added her personal touch to Sunday dinners, birthdays, holidays, and special occasions. She was a lifelong fan of Tom Jones– seeing him in concert 28 times – and of Marilyn Monroe – said to be her likeness. She loved cheering for the Pittsburgh Steelers, eating Little Debbie snacks, chocolates – and always sharing them, attending her class reunions (Redstone High School class of 1955), and watching re-runs of The Golden Girls. In her younger years she was an avid gardener, cook, baker, and loved dancing. She worked as a bartender and was known for her conversation as much as her drinks. She was also a homemaker and caregiver for many years.
Her family would like to thank the staff and residents of Mount Macrina Manor who become part of her family during her time there for their care, support, and love.
Visitation will be held at the Kish-Fabry Funeral Home, Inc. 19 Legion Street Republic, PA on Friday, July 12th from 2-6pm, followed by a blessing service on Saturday, July 13th at 10am and burial at Holy Rosary Cemetery.
