James Earl Burnham, 77 of Merrittstown, PA passed away at his home peacefully on February 19, 2026 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 29, 1948 at his home in Phenix, Alabama, a son of Eather Marie Prophitt and Gahazie Burnham.
In addition to his parents his was preceded in death by the loving father who raised him, Herman Edward Niles; daughter, Cristal Michelle Burnham; brothers: Joe Wallace Burnham, Mark Haywood; sister, Flecia Turner; father-in-law, Merle Zoretic; brother-in-law, Bobby Zoretic.
James is survived by his devoted wife, Nellree Burnham; sons: Brian Burnham (Heather), Chris Chambliss (Fiancee Krystal); granddaughter, Brittany Wilson (Michael); great-granddaughter, Clover; grandson, Seth Pinney; special second mom, Betty Niles; sister, Janice Mace; brothers: Michael Niles, Rodney Niles, David Niles (Janel), Timothy Haywood (Trish); brothers-in-law: Eddie Zoretic, Buck Zoretic (Debi), Buddy Zoretic (Lexi); sisters-in-law, Lou Nagy (Mark), Faye Clay (Mike), Linda Thomas (Paul); along with many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his loyal and constant companion, his dog, Buster.
James proudly served in the United States Marine Corps for twenty years, retiring with the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. He completed two tours in Vietnam before beginning his construction company, Maingate Construction. He loved his work and the many people he met while traveling across the country, often with Buster by his side.
He enjoyed spending time with is family, boating, and making frequent trips to Home Depot and other home improvement stores. Over the years, he took pride in working along side his employees and fellow contractors, building not only projects but lasting relationships.
James will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
James’ family will receive friends from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. on Monday, February 23, 2026 in the Kish Fabry Funeral Home, Inc., 19 Legion Street, Republic, Pa where his funeral service will take place on Tuesday at 10 A.M. Interment will follow at Lafayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, PA with Full Military Rights and Honors being accorded by the George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103, Hopwood, PA.
