Elmer Joseph Swetz age 88 of Adah passed away December 31, 2018 in the Uniontown Hospital. He was born March 14, 1930 on the family farm near Lamberton, PA to Andrew and Anna (Kvartek) Swetz. He was a dairy farmer his entire life. Elmer volunteered to join the United States Marine Corps and served from 1949 - 1952 and attained the rank of Sargent. He was sent into combat in the Wonsan Area of North Korea. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Korean Service Metal, Presidential Unit Citation, and Good Conduct Medal. He married Johanna Kovach who survives in 1954. He was a lifelong member of the former St. Procopius R.C. Church in New Salem and attended St. Thomas Church in Footedale. He was a member of the Crosskeys Sr. Center in Republic and the Amvets in Hopwood. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Andrew and Paul; sisters Sue Sheba, Mary Kuba, Margaret Mahler, Katherine Sobosky, and Helen Demko. He is survived by his children: Anthony (Mari Martha), Rita Ballone, Pollyanna Swetz, and Ramona (John) Clark, four grandchildren: Michael Swetz, Gianna Davis, Christopher Dunn, and Dominique Ballone, four great grandchildren; sister, Anna Novak, several nieces and nephews, and a special niece, Marie Yoppi and her husband Al.
Elmer’s family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, January 3, 2019 in the Kish-Fabry Funeral Home, Inc., 19 Legion Street, Republic, PA 15475 where a Blessing Service will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday with Father Thumma Fathimareddy, as Celebrant. Interment will follow in St Thomas Cemetery, Footedale. PA where Full Military Honors will be accorded by the George C. Marshal Post 103 Amvets of Hopwood.
