Carol Markish Obituary

Carol Ann Markish, of Allison, Pa was born July 17, 1950, in Luzerne Township, Tower Hill #2, passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at her home.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Eleanor and Earnest Keeney; sister, Mary Ann Spinetti; brother, John Keeney and wife, Patty.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years Joseph G. Markish; daughters: Dana and Devon Markish; son, Joseph B. Markish; grandsons: Joseph M. Markish and Christopher Hall; great granddaughter, Mathilda Jo; siblings: Gloria “Butter” Sammons (husband Ron “Sam”), Vivian Ziots (Bo) Lisa Spohn (husband Dink), and George Keeney; many nieces and nephews.

Carol loved her family wholeheartedly and worried constantly about the safety and health of her loved ones. She grew deeply into politics in recent years and when she wasn’t watching Fox News, she would be watching some of her favorites such as lifetime, New Jersey Housewives, or Sex in the City, often with her daughters. Traditional dishes she made would make the whole family come running for more such as zucchini lasagna, stuffed peppers/cabbage rolls, steak and peppers, and her famous macaroni salad.

She took special joy in being a homemaker and sacrificing anything she had to for her husband, children and grandchildren.

She used to sing karaoke and had a beautiful voice that frequently chose Shania Twain songs. She enjoyed listening to music such as a few of her favorites: Keith Urban, Blue Ain’t Your Color, Leon Russell, Lady Blue, Simply Red, If you Don’t Know me by Now, and anything with Marvin Gaye or the Temptations.  She would often enjoy evenings sitting outside her home in Allison with her husband, watching the birds and having a drink to unwind.

Her loving soul will forever be missed by all that were lucky enough to meet her. There will be enough tears shed to fill an entire ocean, but Carol would have wanted those to be tears of memories and happiness, not sadness and grief.  She is now at rest with no pain or suffering, always trying to catch her last breath but will forever be watching over us until the last of ours. Then, we will rejoice in heaven with our guardian angel.

A private memorial service will be held for the family on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at Kish-Fabry Funeral Home, Inc., 19 Legion Street, Republic, PA from 5:00-7:00, with the funeral service at 7:00 p.m.  Memorial contributions can be made to the Kish-Fabry Home, Inc. to help the family with funeral costs.
