Anna R. (Spirko) Sumego, age 91 of Footedale, went home to be with her Lord Wednesday, April 3, 2019 with her loving children by her side. She was born on May 8, 1927 in Royal, a daughter of Jacob and Mary Hornak Spirko.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Joseph P. “Papa Joe” Sumego; grandson, William McGaffick; son in law, Roger Caplinger; brothers: John, Steve, Joseph, Frank, Andrew, and Jacob; sisters: Mary Spirko, Margaret Brozak, Helen Bodnar and Catherine Duhon. Ann was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Roseann Caplinger of Akron, OH, Edward J. (Kathleen) Sumego, Sr. of Uniontown, Deborah (Sylvester) Fronczek of Uniontown; grandchildren: Rene’ (Mark) Golden of Akron, OH., Edward (Heather) Sumego, Jr. of Washington, PA, David (Jessica) Sumego, of San Diego, CA, Joshua Fronczek of Boston MA, Sarah (Daniel) Worth of Chambersburg, PA; great grandchildren: Paige McGaffick, Joseph Golden, Abigail Sumego, Ethan Sumego, Levi Sumego, Allen Sumego, Christopher Sumego, Emma Sumego.
Ann was a member of the former St. Procopius Roman Catholic Church in New Salem, PA where she was a member of the Rosary-Alter Society, the Christian Mothers and the Procopians. She was presently a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Christian Mothers. She was a member of the New Salem American Legion Unit 753 and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Footedale Volunteer Fire Department.
Ann’s joy in life was her deep Christian faith, her love for her family. She also enjoyed traveling, bowling, singing and going to polka dances.
Ann’s family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, April 7, 2019 in Kish-Fabry Funeral Home, Inc., 20 North Mill Street, New Salem, PA, where Prayers of Transfer will be said on Monday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St Francis of Assisi R.C. Church (Footedale worship site) with Father William G. Berkey as Celebrant. Interment will follow at Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown, PA.
A funeral service will be conducted by the American Legion ladies Auxiliary at 3:15 p.m. in the funeral home on Sunday. The Rosary will be prayed by members of St. Francis of Assisi Christian Mothers in the funeral home at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.
